Sunday November 22, 2020

1 Thessalonians 5:18- “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

Not an easy verse for 2020 for a lot of people.

Thanksgiving is a reflection of my heart toward God!  It’s an attitude of my heart.  Even in the difficult seasons of life.

This week many people will be preparing Thanksgiving meals.  Spending hours in the kitchen baking and cooking a delicious meal that usually takes about maybe 30 minutes for everyone to enjoy.

BUT THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT A THANKFUL HEART THAT PREPARES AN ATMOSPHERE IN MY LIFE THAT LAST A LIFETIME.

  1.  Thanksgiving Prepares me for God’s Presence

Psalms 26:6-8- “I come to your altar, O Lord, singing a song of thanksgiving

and telling of all your wonders. I love your sanctuary, Lord,

the place where your glorious presence dwells.”

Psalms 100:4- “Enter his gates with thanksgiving;  go into his courts with praise.

Give thanks to him and praise his name.”

Psalms 118:19-20- “Open for me the gates where the righteous enter,  and I will go in and thank the Lord. These gates lead to the presence of the Lord,  and the godly enter there.”

Thanksgiving prepares me for God’s presence!!!!

II.  Thanksgiving Prepares me for God’s Peace

Philippians 4:6-7- “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

III.  Thanksgiving Prepares me for God’s Goodness

Psalms 118:29- “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.”

Thanksgiving opens my heart to see the goodness of God!

Mark 10:18- ““Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked. “Only God is truly good.

IF IT’S NOT GOOD GOD’S NOT DONE YET.

HERE’S WHAT I REALLY BELIEVE

Psalms 27:13-14- “Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous.  Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.”

Romans 8:28- “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

THANKSGIVING PREPARES MY HEART TO RECEIVE THE GOODNESS OF GOD!

CLOSING:

1 Peter 2:9- “But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.”

Thanksgiving prepares my heart for God’s presence.  For God’s peace and God’s goodness!     LET’S PRAY
