Let It Go

How many of you are collectors? What do you collect? Would your family say that you’re a hoarder?

Some of us like to collect things that are valuable or have special meaning to us. Some may collect things that look cool or maybe are from your favorite childhood TV show. But while some of us collect material things, some others of us collect emotional things. What do you mean Pastor T? While some of us collect material things, others of us collect bitterness, resentment, loneliness, hurt, anxiety, fear, the list goes on. Too many of us are holding on to things that we were never meant to hold onto.

Today, I want to give you three ways that I believe will help you let go of those negative emotional things that you keep holding onto and will allow you to continuously collect positive things that will enhance your spiritual and physical well-being.

  1. Pray continuously

Daniel (Daniel 6)

Sometimes, the things we hold on to cause us to feel like we are in a low place and can’t escape. The decisions we’ve made over the years, or have made currently, have allowed us to fall into this pit of loneliness and despair and we wonder if we will ever make it out. It’s as if we keep trying to hold on to how those things makes us feel in the moment instead of focusing on reality. It’s in those moments where getting on our knees in prayer will help us get out of the situation.

1 Thess. 5:17-18  Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live. (MSG)

You see, we have a resource and an “out” that the world doesn’t have or aren’t aware that they have.

Acts 2:42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. (NIV)

Devotion-love, loyalty, or enthusiasm for a person, activity, or cause

Are you enthusiastic about prayer? Do you love to pray? When all else fails, do you still remember to pray?

  • Read His word constantly

Joshua 1:8- 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. (KJV)

8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. (NIV)

Hebrews 4:12- For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (NIV)

12 For we have the living Word of God, which is full of energy, like a two-mouthed sword. It will even penetrate to the very core of our being where soul and spirit, bone and marrow meet! It interprets and reveals the true thoughts and secret motives of our hearts. (TPT)

2 Timothy 2:15– Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. (NIV)

3.            We must be willing to be vulnerable

Matt. 11:28-30  28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” (NLT)

Closing: What are those things that you’re holding onto that are keeping you from receiving His blessings? Is it fear? Betrayal? Hurt? Anger? Depression? God wants you to release those things today and instead grab onto the things of Him. “Today is your day to let go of those things that no longer serve you.” Whatever it is you’re holding onto it’s time to LET IT GO!
