INTRODUCTION:  If you have small children or when your children were small did you ever look at them and say “What’s That in your Mouth?”

One time our son Justin swallowed a nickel.  It looked really cool on the X-Ray!

Our daughter Staci and her cousin swallowed rat poison.  That was an adventure.

Abby, my rescue dog eating chicken defecation.

BUT LISTEN TO WHAT JESUS SAID

Matthew 15:11 – “It’s not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth.”

WHAT’S THAT IN YOUR MOUTH?  I NEED  BOUNDARIES..BECAUSE

1.  Words reveal my heart!

Matthew 15:18 – “But the words you speak come from the heart—that’s what defiles you.”

(TPT)- “But what comes out of your mouth reveals the core of your heart. Words can pollute, not food.”

Luke 6:45 – “A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.”

2.  My words are powerful!

Proverbs 18:21- “The tongue has the power of life and death,…”

“Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me.” NOT TRUE!

Sticks and stones can bruise your body for a few days but words can bruise your soul for years!

OR, words can transform your life for the better!

James 3:3-5 – “We can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in its mouth. And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong. In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire.”

If you want to change the life you have then change the words you speak.  Small changes in the words we speak can make a big difference in the life we live!

I NEED BOUNDARIES BECAUSE?

3.  My words matter to Jesus!

Matthew 12:35-37 – “A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.”

It would seem this verse communicates to us that heaven is keeping record of our words!

BOUNDARIES ON MY WORDS ARE SO IMPORTANT

Proverbs 12:18 -“The words of the reckless pierce like swords,  but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”

Proverbs 15:4 – “Gentle words are a tree of life;  a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.”

HERE’S MY GOAL:

Psalms 19:14 – “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart

be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”

HOW CAN MY WORDS BECOME PLEASING TO GOD?

  1.  Guard my heart.

Our first point revealed that our words reveal our heart!

Proverbs 4:23 – “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”

2.  Guide my heart with God’s Word.

What is guiding your heart right now?

Remember we said earlier, your “WORDS” are powerful!

Hebrews 4:12 (NLT)- “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”

Your words are powerful!  God’s Word is powerful!  Now how powerful is that!

3. Give God first place in your heart.

1 John 5:21- Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts.”

(TPT)- “So, little children, guard yourselves from worshiping anything but him.”

CONCLUSION:

Look at this connection between your heart and your words.

Romans 10:10- “For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.”

WHAT IS THE HOLY SPIRIT SAYING TO YOU THROUGH THIS MESSAGE?

Have you given God first place in your heart?
