Psalm 127:1- “Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted…”
Our prayer should be “God build the house!” Because God is building a house!
Ephesians 2:20-22- “Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord. Through him you Gentiles are also being made part of this dwelling where God lives by his Spirit.”
God is taking a house and transforming it into a home! A dwelling He lives in by His Spirit.
GOD LONGS TO DWELL AMONG US! GOD IS IN THE HOUSE AND HE’S TRANSFORMING IT INTO A HOME!
WHEN GOD BUILDS THE HOUSE:
- The Home Becomes Full of Love
Romans 5:5- “And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-7- “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”
WHEN GOD BUILDS THE HOUSE:
2. The Home Becomes Full of Joy
Romans 15:13- “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Philippians 4:4- “Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!”
1 Thessalonians 5:16- “Always be joyful!”
Romans 14:17- “For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”
Why do we treat joyful people like they’re weird?
We need to pray like David did: Psalm 51:12- “Restore to me the joy of your
salvation,..”
WHEN GOD BUILDS THE HOUSE:
3. The Home Becomes Full of Peace
A state of rest, quietness, and calmness, an absence of strife. Harmonious relationships.
2 Peter 1:2- “May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.”
2 Thessalonians 3:16- “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.”
Romans 16:20- “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet….”
Peace is not passive!
WHEN GOD BUILDS THE HOUSE:
4. The Home Becomes Full of Patience
Patience is the ability to endure without complaining!
Ephesians 4:2- “Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.”
Colossians 3:12-13- “Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”
WHEN GOD BUILDS THE HOUSE:
5. The Home Becomes Full of Kindness
Kindness is the ability to act for the welfare of those taxing your patience!
The Holy Spirit removes abrasive qualities from the character of one under his control!
1 Corinthians 13:4- “Love is patient and kind….”
Ephesians 4:31-32- “Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.”
WHEN GOD BUILDS THE HOUSE:
6. The Home Becomes Full of Goodness
Romans 15:14- “My dear brothers and sisters, I am fully convinced of your genuine spirituality. I know that each of you is stuffed full of God’s goodness, that you are richly supplied with all kinds of revelation-knowledge, and that you are empowered to effectively instruct one another.”
Goodness is actually kindness in action! It is a Godlike state of being!
Friends we can be good and do good because our God is GOOD!
WHEN GOD BUILDS THE HOUSE:
7. The Home Becomes Full of Faithfulness
Faithfulness is believing that God is who he says he is and continuing in that faith no matter the circumstances!
Faithfulness is steadfastness, constancy, or allegiance.
Faithfulness is the conviction that the Bible is God’s Word and God is not a man that he should lie and he will fulfill his promises!
2 Corinthians 5:7- “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (NLT) “For we live by believing and not by seeing.”
WHEN GOD BUILDS THE HOUSE
8. The Home Becomes Full of Gentleness
1 Timothy 6:11- “But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness, and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness!”
This word “gentleness” is best translated “meekness.”
Gentleness is not an indication of weakness but of power and strength under control!
WHEN GOD BUILDS THE HOUSE:
9. The Home Becomes Full of Self-Control
Simply put, the ability to control oneself! The ability to say no to our fleshly lust. The ability to say no to everything that is contrary to the eight things we’ve already talked about.
One of the proofs of God working in our lives is the ability to control our thoughts, words and actions.
2 Timothy 1:7- “For God will never give you the spirit of fear, but the Holy Spirit who gives you mighty power, love, and self-control.”
CONCLUSION: When God builds the house the house is growing in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
“Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted…”
These nine qualities you can’t produce on your own!
There’s one other place in the Bible that gives us insight.
Galatians 5:22-23- “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!”
Today I’m going to yield myself to the work of the Holy Spirit in me! What is the Holy Spirit saying to you through this message?
